The mission of the Old North State BBQ Series (Series) is to promote barbecue excellence, and encourage competitive team spirit while enhancing tourism as an economic development initiative in North Carolina.
The Series will consists of seven (7) KCBS sanctioned BBQ competition events across North Carolina: Kings Mountain Firehouse BBQ Cook-Off (April 15-16, 2016), Kannapolis Jiggy with the Piggy (May 6-7, 2016), Lincolnton Hog Happenin' BBQ & Bike Fest (June 3-4, 2016), Asheboro Pigs & Pedals (August 5-6, 2016), Salisbury Tilley Harley-Davidson Biker, Blues, and BBQ Classic (September 16-17, 2016), Lenoir Smoking in the Foothills (October 14-15, 2016), and Shelby Hog Happnin' (November 4-5, 2016). Championship BBQ teams competing in these events work to accumulate points to earn the honor of being called the Old North State Series Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion (1st Runner-Up).
To be eligible, teams must compete in five (5) of the seven (7)events.
Grand Champion: $2,000
Reserve Grand: $1,500
3rd Place: $1,000
4th Place: $500
5th Place: $500
There is NO fee to enter. We understand prior commitments or unexpected emergencies may prevent teams from participating in all seven events, so while participation in all seven events is advantageous and strongly encouraged, it is NOT required. The team with the highest five (5) cumulative overall points from the seven (7) events will be crowned the Old North State Series Grand Champion. If you do not compete in an event, your team score will be considered "0".
The Old North State Series Scoring:
· Based on KCBS scoring from each event.
· Highest cumulative total score for 5 out of the 7 events.
· Team with the highest overall score wins Grand Champion.
· Team with second highest overall score wins Reserve Grand Champion
Tiebreaker: The lowest event overall score will be used as the tiebreaker. In essence, whoever has the highest overall score that was "dropped" will win the tiebreaker.
